Cupping notes: An exotic and complex cup with a broad spectrum from sweet to tangy, featuring tropical fruits, golden berries, tamarind, and spice. Whiskey and red wine tannin notes meet maple syrup, sweet cider, and wood nuances. Layers of chocolate, banana, peach, and dried pineapple complement berries and fermented fruit. Structured, syrupy, and creamy-bodied, with high intensity, lasting sweetness, and intriguing hints of cherry and tobacco on the finish.

About the Farm

Epiphanie Mukashya is a strong woman from Rwanda’s Southern Province. In 1994, during the terrible genocide against the Tutsi, she lost her husband and many family members. She was left alone with seven children and no money to care for them. Even with these hard times, she did not give up.
In 1996, Epiphanie found hope in coffee farming. She started growing 100% Red Bourbon coffee on her farm high in the hills near Nyarusiza Washing Station.
With unwavering dedication, she became the first woman to supply large quantities of defect-free red cherries grown in a single farm to the Nyarusiza CWS, setting a high standard for quality.
Coffee farming became more than a way to make money for her. In partnership with Nyarusiza washing station, Epiphanie helped create a group of coffee farmers. She taught them how to pick coffee cherries well and how to take care of their coffee trees. The farmers and Tropic Coffee team worked closely together, which helped everyone succeed.
The pickers working on this singe farm are trained on good cherries harvesting, ensuring only red ripe cherries are picked. The coffee harvested are supplied to stations within the same day of picking to maintain the quality and freshness of the coffee, and at each delivery, coffee cherries are inspected and any unripe cherries or damaged one are rejected.
The money from coffee helped many farmers pay school fees for their children. This gave children a chance to learn and have a better future. The families also used the money to bring electricity and clean water to their homes, making life better.
Epiphanie’s story shows courage and leadership. Through coffee farming, she not only helped her own family but also helped her whole community grow stronger. Her story proves that hard work and working together can bring good change.
