Grown at an elevation of 1,937 meters in the rolling hills of Nyamasheke District, this Arabica coffee was cultivated by Kazungu Augustin and his colleagues in Mahembe Sector, where the high-altitude environment provides favorable conditions for producing quality coffee. Nyamasheke is well known for its ideal coffee-growing climate, scenic hills, and proximity to the clear waters of Lake Kivu. The coffee was delivered to Mugonero Washing Station, situated in the heart of Nyamasheke, where it underwent a fully washed process to carefully preserve its quality. Produced by a farmer with decades of experience in coffee farming, this lot reflects the potential of high-altitude Rwandan Arabica and the care invested from cultivation through processing. The coffee is well known for it's Nice character's flavors with nice floral and chocolate aromas, medium/good acidity(lively), Rich mouthfeel with very round aftertaste, stable consistent balance and nice dimension overall. The coffee is RFA certified, further reflecting the commitment to responsible production practices.

About the Farm
Kazungu Augustin’s journey with coffee began in 1984, when
he was still a young man growing just 350 coffee trees in Mahembe
Sector, Nyamasheke District, in Rwanda’s Western Province.
Over the years, he continued investing in his farm, gradually
increasing the number of trees to around 3,500 today.
As his coffee farm grew, so did the opportunities it created for
Augustin and his family. He now earns more than RWF 5 million from
coffee each year, which has enabled him to invest in several areas
of his livelihood. He has built a commercial house in Bajanja
Trading Centre, purchased two tea plots worth about RWF 5 million,
acquired land for growing maize, beans, and cassava, and invested
in livestock.
The benefits of coffee have also extended to his children's
education. Augustin has been able to use the income from his coffee
farm to pay their school fees, including the costs of secondary and
university education. For him, being able to support his children's
education is one of the most important achievements that coffee
farming has made possible.
With the farm continuing to provide for his family, Augustin is now
looking at how he can make his coffee production even better. His
focus is on improving the management of his trees so that they can
produce higher yields and better-quality coffee. He also plans to
increase the number of coffee trees on his farm.
Augustin is also thinking about how to make these plans sustainable
in the years ahead. He intends to save through Umurenge SACCO so
that he can continue investing in his coffee farm, contribute to
his children's education, and provide health insurance for his
family.
Having experienced the benefits of coffee farming himself, Augustin
believes that farmers can achieve even more when they receive the
right support. He encourages stakeholders in the coffee sector to
remain close to farmers and provide practical support, including
training, equipment such as pumps and secateurs, and sufficient
access to high-quality coffee seedlings.
From the 350 trees he planted as a young man to the 3,500 trees he
manages today, Augustin has steadily built coffee into a foundation
for his family's livelihood and future. His journey reflects how
continued investment in coffee can help farmers build assets,
support their families, and create opportunities that extend well
beyond the farm.
