About the Farm

Coffee has been part of NGABONZIZA Mathias’s life since 2005, when he was inspired by his parents, who were also coffee farmers. What began as a family influence has grown into a productive farm of 505 coffee trees, currently yielding between 1,500 and 2,000 kg of coffee per season. Mathias attributes his good production to the care he gives his coffee trees. He regularly applies fertilizers, keeps his farm weed-free, and takes action against pests and diseases to maintain healthy and productive trees.
The income from coffee has brought meaningful changes to his family’s life. Mathias has used it to purchase land, pay school fees for his children, and meet other important household needs. Coffee has also given him the capital to establish and grow other businesses, including selling construction materials and food products, allowing him to diversify his sources of income.
Beyond the financial benefits, Mathias takes pride in what coffee farming has helped him achieve and the respect it has earned him within his community. His progress has strengthened his commitment to coffee, and he now hopes to expand his farm by planting more trees.
With coffee prices continuing to rise, Mathias sees further opportunities ahead. He believes that increasing production can help farmers like him earn more, invest in their livelihoods, and build a better future for their families.
