Produced by Habimana Jean Bosco, a passionate farmer in Rwanda’s Northern Province, this exceptional coffee thrives at an elevation of 2,100–2,200 meters; one of the highest-growing regions in Rwanda. Processed at the Mbilima washing station by the Dukunde Kawa Musasa Cooperative, this lot embodies the cooperative’s dedication to quality and community impact.

Using the honey processing method, the cherries are partially depulped and dried with their mucilage intact, amplifying the coffee’s natural sweetness and depth. The result is a vibrant, complex cup with luscious notes of apricot, wild honey, and dark cocoa.

Grown in Gakenke’s fertile volcanic soils and cultivated organically since 2015, this Red Bourbon lot benefits from the region’s mineral-rich earth and lush microclimate, ideal for specialty coffee. More than just a coffee, it’s a reflection of Rwanda’s distinctive terroir, the craftsmanship of its farmers, and the cooperative’s unwavering commitment to excellence

Producer Story:

High in the cool, misty hills of Rwanda’s Northern Province, the Dukunde Kawa Musasa Cooperative continues to set the standard for exceptional coffee and community impact. Founded in the early 2000s in Gakenke District, the cooperative today represents over 2,000 smallholder farmers, most of whom are women. With multiple washing stations — including the renowned Mbilima CWS — and a deep focus on quality, equity, and community commitment, Dukunde Kawa has become a cornerstone of Rwanda’s specialty coffee success.

One exceptional lot tells the story of Habimana Jean Bosco, a dedicated member of the cooperative who farms at elevations between 2,100 and 2,200 meters. On the volcanic slopes of Gakenke, he grows Red Bourbon coffee trees nourished by nutrient-rich soil and careful cultivation. His cherries were delivered to Mbilima Washing Station, where they underwent a honey process — a method that involves partially depulping the cherries and drying them with mucilage still intact. This gentle and meticulous technique enhances natural sweetness and complexity, resulting in a vibrant cup brimming with notes of apricot, wild honey, and dark cocoa.

Certified by the Organic, this lot is not only a testament to flavor, but also to sustainable farming and environmental care. At Dukunde Kawa, each coffee is a product of shared knowledge, transparent systems, and a passion for continuous improvement. Through efforts like health insurance for members, women-led economic projects, and youth training programs, the cooperative reinvests every success into its people. The story of Habimana Jean Bosco and his honey-processed lot is one of craftsmanship, heritage, and a community deeply rooted in the pursuit of excellence — one cup at a time.
