Producer Story:

The hills of Rubavu District in Rwanda’s Western Province are alive with the sound of work. Before the sun is fully up, forty-one farmers are already in their fields. Among them is BIZIMANA Theogene checking over the coffee trees that he and his fellow farmers have tended all year.
The farmers' journey with growing coffee has been a mix of old and new ways of doing things. Exploring trainings about Regenerative Agriculture taught them how to take care of their coffee trees so that they grow perfectly, with a reduced impact on the environment and protecting the soil with a good harvest in return.
The farmers pick the coffee cherries with care when they are at their best ripeness. The farmers already know the importance post-harvest handling and so they take their coffee cherries to Rwacof Nyamyumba Coffee Washing Station (CWS), within just eight hours after picking them. The hard work of the forty-one farmers this season paid off with an impressive yield of 6,001 kilograms of coffee cherries that represents the Lot (25 NYB 0804).
At the station, Etienne Ndutiye, the Quality Controller, and Eliane Uwineza, the CWS Manager, take over making sure the fully washed process that is preceded by a deep sorting and floating rans; smoothly, bringing out the clean, bright flavors the region is known for.
For Bizimana and the others, this is more than coffee. It’s a proof of what can happen when a community works together and invests in better ways of farming. The coffee they produce doesn’t just taste good it tells the story of their land, love for coffee, and their future.
